In the world of movies there are two inevitabilities for the free-spirited, unfettered society girl: she is always gorgeous, and she always ends up falling in love. This means that disparate films like Breakfast at Tiffany’s and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are strangely more alike than they seem. But the important thing is that we always adore that character, we always want to be her. She’s the girl who’s so cool that everyone wants to have her; yet so independent that she won’t let them. Beautifully shot in black and white, Alasdair McLellan’s campaign for Emporio Armani spring 2012 gives every strand of hair, every freckle, every texture of fabric the attention it deserves. But the true romance comes from the locale, Hong Kong, with the fashion house themselves even giving a nod that, yes, the city “with its harmonic and energetic mix of past and future, is the movie’s true protagonist”.

In the timeless surrounds of the city, fragments of a story featuring Tao Okamoto, Kendra Spears and Florian Van Bael unfurl.

What is it like to soak up the fashion week atmosphere in Milan? The interesting thing about this question is that the experience is different for everyone. So the more intriguing question might actually be, what is it like to attend a Milan fashion week show when you happen to be Anna Dello Russo?

Dello Russo gets to see things that others don’t see. She’d also, no doubt, interpret them through the lens of her own creative vision. In this project by ZZegna, Dello Russo filmed her experience of the ZZegna fall 2011 men’s show from arriving (and of course being snapped by street style bloggers) to wandering backstage, to viewing the actual show. The thing that perhaps strikes you the most though is how unflappable and at ease Dello Russo is despite the rush of fashion week. And, of course, how well she accessorises the beautifully tailored double-breasted suit created especially for her by ZZegna’s Creative Director, Paul Surridge.
