POWER CUT WARNING
Salons are bracing themselves for regular power cuts as a consequence of hotter summers. Energy companies blame the wide take-up of air-conditioning units following a severe power cut in London's West End last month. The Wacky Haircutters, in Soho, said it was the third interruption it had suffered intwo months. Ricky Thompson said the salon lost about 40% of its usual business during the latest four-hour power cut. "Not only does it affect the salons but it affects our commission as well" he said. Nic Richter at Tony&Guy, in Regent Street, said the salon's power was out for about five hours. "It was crazy. We had to transport all our clients in cabs to other salons". Ben White, owner of Soho salon Fordham White, said his salon did not get cut off but still saw a drop in profit because lots of clients cancelled on the assumption it might lose power. Others cancelled because they were going home early from work because they had been by the power failure.

STUNNING NEW LOOK FOR POSH
When Victoria Beckham stepped out sporting an edgy bob last week, she delighted hairdressers nationwide. Gone is the full head of extensions, which have been replaced by a tapered, sophisticated jaw-length bob. Ben Cooke from Lockenego in London, Victoria's regular hairdresser, created the head-turning look.
"She wanted a more directional style as she has an international magazine photo shoot coming up and we decided it was time for a complete change. We created the look together and had real fun. Like any client losing their length, there were a few seconds of gasps, but she loves it and so does David." Lisa Shepherd, 2005 British Hairdresser of the Year, also approves. "It is refreshing that a big-name celebrity will have such a radical change" she said.
